Hello and welcome to my blog. Within this post I plan on discussing what my project is, how I go about doing it, forseen difficulties, and the quest to find a mentor. Let's begin 😏
First off, my 20% project will be on serving those who have formerly served all of us, our veterans. As of recent I have befriended a veteran and have begun visiting him once a week. While visiting Redding's Veterans home, I have noticed that many of the other vets seem lonely and have no one to talk to. My plan to change this is to hopefully establish a program that sends qualified teenagers in the community to spend a few hours a week with these lonely veterans, and allow the veteran to choose what they would like to do, wether it be teaching the vet basic computer knowledge or spending the time talking or even just eating a meal with them. My project will be a test to see how well this idea would actually work, or even if the vets would want that. The only real timeline I can think of is wanting to have the vet enjoy this project the whole time and have have it be so successful that it becomes a real program to benifit our former service men and women.
I honestly don't see any difficulties within this project; I have spoken with the veteran, Bobby, and he is excited about taking part in this project with me.
As for a mentor I am considering my mother because she suggested the idea after I became friends with Bobby. She is very smart and always encouraging me and full of great ideas.
In the end I just want to help out in the community and hopefully make a positive difference.

This is a great service to our vets, Gabe. I think this is very doable, and perhaps you could begin with your church youth group to begin to get teens out to the Vet home. Although it will take longer than the 7 weeks left for school this semester, it is VERY worthwhile and I hope you continue to get this project off the ground. Maybe for a future blog you could post a picture of you and Bobby? I'd like to see that!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love that you want to do this;l I love even more that you want to get other teens involved. There is so much that can be learned from them and your company is a wonderful way to give back.
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome idea! It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun! Good luck!
